Coartada: mysteries
of deduction
Every guest has a story. Only one fits. 🔍
Sudoku + Clue in a mansion full of secrets. Read the alibis, pencil out cells and deduce which room each suspect was in. Every case has a single solution and is solved 100% by logic, no guessing.
Real case 1 from the game, solved: every alibi fits
What is Coartada?
Coartada (Spanish for “alibi”) is a single-player deduction game: picture the flavor of Clue — a mansion, suspects, alibis that don’t quite add up — turned into a pure logic puzzle, with no dice and no luck. Each case gives you a floor plan, a group of guests and their statements; your job is to cross-reference them until only one arrangement remains.
If you enjoy logic grid puzzles or Einstein’s riddle, this is their playable version: all the information is in view from the first second, pencil notes replace the eraser, and the case file closes with a solved stamp when every alibi fits.
Like every CultivaGames title, each case is 100% solvable by deduction: you will never need to guess. Coartada is in development and coming very soon to Google Play; in the meantime, you can train your logic with Cat Sudoku, our free cat logic puzzle.
What a case looks like
This is not a screenshot: it is the first case of the game, rendered from its real data. Three suspects, four rooms and the clues that solve it.
The suspects
Their alibis
Irene was in the Lounge.
Darío was in the same room as Clara.
Clara was in the Library.
Clara was higher up than Darío.

How to play Coartada
-
1 Read the alibis
Each case arrives with the suspects’ statements: where they claim they were, and with whom. All the clues sit on the same screen, no back and forth.
-
2 Pencil out cells
Cross-reference the clues to mark cells as possible or impossible. Two suspects never share a row or column, and furniture blocks the way.
-
3 Close the case
When every suspect fits their single possible cell, all the alibis line up and the case file closes with a SOLVED stamp.
Detective strategies
Three ways of reasoning that crack any case, from the first glance to the solved stamp.
-
1 Lock in the certainties first
Some alibis place a suspect in a specific room. Start there: every pinned suspect blocks their row and column, and that shrinks the whole case.
-
2 Chain your eliminations
Relational alibis (“A was next to B”, “nobody in the same row as C”) don’t say where someone is — but they say where they are NOT. Pencil in every impossible cell: the answer emerges by elimination.
-
3 Use the floor plan
Furniture blocks cells and rooms come in quirky shapes. When a room has only one free cell left, you already know where its occupant was.
Climb the ranks, detective
Cases are organized in five ranks. Each one demands finer deductions: what starts as a quick glance ends up requiring brilliant-mind hypotheses.

Frequently asked questions
How do you play Coartada?
Each case is a mansion divided into rooms and a group of suspects with their alibis. Cross-reference the clues to rule out cells and place every suspect: two suspects never share a row or column, and furniture blocks cells. When all the alibis fit, the case is solved.
Is it like Clue?
It shares the flavor — a mansion, suspects, alibis — but it is a different game: a single-player logic puzzle with no dice and no luck. It is closer to logic grid puzzles than to the board game: all the information is in view and the case is closed by deduction alone.
Do I ever have to guess?
No. Every case is 100% deducible by logic: there is always a reasonable next step, with no blind trial and error.
How many cases and difficulty tiers are there?
Cases are organized in 5 detective ranks: Apprentice, Assistant, Detective, Inspector and Legend. Each rank raises the bar, from direct deductions to cases that demand brilliant-mind hypotheses.
